The Tag Inheritance feature in the Data Catalog module helps streamline the classification tag assignment process and keep tags consistent across your data dictionary and data catalog. When a term is approved in your Glossary, any tag that is associated with that term will be automatically applied to all of the associated data assets. There is no setting required as this occurs by default.
To verify tag-term relationships
Understand the expected inheritance behavior by examining which terms are related to a given tag. Conversely, tag-term relationship verification can also be done at the term level to see what all tags are applied when the term is approved.
In this example, we are checking the relationship between the Tag, Criminal Data, and the term, Criminal Records, from both angles.
Tag Level

On the menu, select . The Data Dictionary screen appears.

Go to the Tags tab.

Search and select your desired tag. The Tag Details screen appears.

Go to the Related Terms tab.

The list will include all the terms that have been related to the given tag. Whenever one of these terms is approved, the given tag will be applied to all associated data assets.
Term Level

Search and select your desired term. The Term Details screen appears.

This list will include all the tags that have been related to the given term. Whenever this specific term is approved, all listed tags will be applied to the associated data assets.
Inherited tags cannot be removed for individual assets. You will need to remove the relationship between the tag and term, but this will remove the tag from all assets to which it was applied. In the same way we verified the tag-term relationship, there are two ways methods for removal:
